New(-old) project: TVTastic
Last month, I released the first version of TimeTails, a clock-learning app for kids, and a new version of my weight tracking app ScaleDiary. This month, I’m working on a new app.
I say new, but actually it’s an old idea. In 2021, during the pandemic, I suddenly had a lot of time and I started following Angela Yu’s iOS & Swift development course. In my job at the time, I missed building actual apps. With the course, I started learning Swift, not knowing that this would put me on the journey I am on today.
The idea I had at the time was TVTastic. It was a scratch-my-own-itch project, a client for my Vu+ satellite box. The only thing was, it was too big a project to start. I was learning Swift and the iOS APIs, re-learning APIs I had forgotten or that changed over the six years since I last did iOS development, and at the same time struggling with the complexity of an app of that size. It took me a couple of years to realize that actually it’s better to start with small apps, build up knowledge in a bite-size way and do a couple of these kinds of apps before attempting to build something bigger. Now, more than five years and several projects later, it’s time to give TVTastic another try. Hopefully, finally scratching that nagging feeling of an unfinished project. Stay tuned!
